The desktop of the network // early access
bromigOS™The Wick on your desk.
Holograms and a caretaker who lives on your desktop, worlds that move with your machine, widgets that show real readings. A layer of signed packages on Arch Linux and Hyprland, with one command to install, theme, update and roll back.

Highlight 01
Holograms and VECTOR.
A caretaker of relay light who lives on your desktop, and holographic models and decks you can call up over any window. Drag one to turn it.
VECTOR's brain is any OpenAI-compatible endpoint you choose: a local model, one in your homelab, or a hosted one. His voice runs on your machine, and his memory stays there.

Highlight 02
Live worlds.
The scene behind your windows is a world of the Drift, and everything that moves in it is real data: your agents, your network, your notifications, the clock.
The keeper mirrors you: working while you work, dozing when you're idle. If a source isn't there, the thing it drives isn't drawn. Nothing moves for decoration.
What feeds the worlds
| Source | What it is | Comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Agents | AI coding agents run by herdr: working, needs you, finished | herdr |
| Agents working | herdr's working agents, plus busy Claude Code sessions outside herdr | herdr, the process list |
| Network | Throughput, split into download and upload | this machine |
| Notifications | Desktop notifications, with critical ones flagged | this machine |
| CPU | This machine's load | this machine |
| Activity | Whether you're working, idle or locked | this machine |
| Lab health | Your homelab's services: up, degraded or down | bromigos-homelab |
| Local models | How hard your homelab's local models are working | bromigos-homelab |
| Clock | Local time; the moon's phase is computed from it | this machine |

Highlight 03
Widgets that do things.
Translucent plates that show real readings only, where every region explains itself on hover. A unified menu on SUPER + SPACE runs everything else.

Your homelab's console.
Cluster health, GitOps, metrics, local models, secrets status and agents, live on the desktop and to VECTOR. Read-only by design: nothing reads a secret, and nothing is sent anywhere you didn't configure.

Make a world.
A world's art is data, like its colours: a recipe for every painting, creature and loop. The art command says what's made and what's missing, then makes it where you choose: this machine, your homelab, or a hosted service only if you allow it.

Make it yours.
One install command for anything bromigOS can be extended with: themes, decks, shader layers, widgets, VECTOR's tools and skills, homelab adapters, commands and hooks. An update shows what changed and asks first.

Roadmap · as of 2026-10-09
Layer first. Distro second.
bromigOS ships as a layer on vanilla Arch first, and as an ISO once the layer is solid.
- Phase 01 · Complete
Carve out the shareable desktop
The desktop carved out of one machine into signed pacman packages, with updates and migrations.
- Phase 02 · Complete
Install on a fresh Arch machine
A short bootstrap and a first-run setup take a fresh Arch install to the full desktop.
- Phase 03 · Complete
The ISO
A live and install medium that boots straight into the desktop: encrypted, with snapshots in the boot menu.
- Phase 04 · In progress
Hardware and polish
The unified menu, the theme switcher, extensions from git; then laptops, GPUs and accessibility.
- The shell
- Themes beyond the desktop
- Safety and docs
- Extensions
- Hardware
- Peripheral modules
- Accessibility
- Settings, and idle and lock
- The Settings overhaul
- The shortcut picker
- The boot menus
- Phase 05 · In progress
The lab console
- Part 1: the console
- Part 2: changing the lab
- Part 3: setting up a new lab
Ready to light it?
bromigOS is in early access, and anyone can install it. The installer is a short script you can read before you run it.
