Install. Update. Roll back.

One short script takes a fresh Arch install to the whole desktop. Every update is bracketed by a snapshot, and any update can be undone in place. Or boot the ISO: it installs with no network, encrypted, with snapshots in the boot menu.

On a fresh Arch install, as your own user: download the installer, read it, run it.

Stuck, or want company? Ask on the Discord.

01 · Install

On a fresh Arch install.

Start from Arch with a user who has sudo and a network (archinstall's minimal profile is enough). The installer refuses to run as root or off Arch, trusts the repository's key only if its fingerprint matches the one it pins, and hands over to bromigos install. --dry-run shows every step and changes nothing; running it again is safe.

  1. preflight

Checks for a regular user with sudo, on Arch, with the [bromigos] repository

  2. packages

Installs the bromigos package and any --with extras

  3. aur

Installs paru, the AUR helper, unless the AUR is off or a helper is already installed

  4. services

Enables networking, the login screen, Bluetooth and PipeWire

  5. rollback

Sets up update snapshots, where / is btrfs

  6. hardware

Installs and configures the graphics drivers and laptop power tools

  7. configs

Runs the pending migrations, which create your config files

  8. desktop settings

Sets the GTK theme, icons, cursor, font and dark mode

  9. theme

    Renders the theme

  10. boot menu

Turns on bromigOS's GRUB theme, where GRUB boots the machine

Then bromigos setupasks the first-run questions: your monitors, the theme, VECTOR's brain and voice, your homelab, where AI runs. Reboot, sign in at the Bromigos login screen, and the desktop is there.

02 · Update

One way to update.

A snapshot, the package transaction, any pending migrations, the theme rendered again, then a restart of whatever still runs old code. A bare pacman -Syu is nudged back to it.

  • stable

Tagged releases (vX.Y.Z). The default for new installs.

  • rc

    Release candidates (vX.Y.Z-rcN).

  • edge

Every push to main, as soon as CI publishes it.

  • dev

Your own build, from a local repository.

03 · Roll back

Undo any update.

On a btrfs root, rolling back shows the update and what it would touch, asks, then puts back every file the system had before it, in place. For an update that won't boot, the boot menu lists the snapshots and boots one.

04 · Packages

16 packages. One meta-package.

bromigos pulls in the desktop; the rest are options. A few packages that only live in the AUR are built into the same repository, pinned by checksum.

A world's art: plan (price it), run (make it through nolgia), status, mark
bromigos target
Where AI work runs: homelab, local or cloud, per service (art, VECTOR's voice and brain); show it, probe it, switch it (bromigos target local)
bromigos mute
The desktop's one mute: the theme's sounds and VECTOR's voice together (on, off, toggle, status; SUPER+SHIFT+M)
bromigos peripheral
Optional peripheral modules: a Razer keyboard's macro keys, its dial as VECTOR's voice dial, lighting that follows VECTOR (list, status, enable, disable, refresh)
bromigos accessibility
Reduced motion and high contrast: show them, set them (bromigos accessibility motion reduced, contrast high), measure a theme's colours (check)
bromigos idle
Idle and lock: when the screensaver starts, the screen locks, the displays go off and it suspends (status, set, preset, stay-awake, off, undo)
bromigos lock
Lock the screen now (loginctl lock-session)
bromigos wallpaper
The den wallpaper (any bromigos-wallpaper command)
bromigos update
Update everything: packages (sudo pacman -Syu, then AUR packages with paru), then migrations, the theme, and restarts of whatever runs older code than is installed
bromigos channel
The update channel this machine follows (stable, rc, edge, dev): show it, or switch
bromigos rollback
Rolling updates back: status (how this machine snapshots updates, what can be undone), setup (snapper's root configuration, snap-pac, grub-btrfs with its overlay hook or limine-snapper-sync, where / is btrfs), allow (wheel may list root's snapshots, so updates are recorded). Undoing one is bromigos update --rollback
bromigos aur
The AUR (build recipes Arch users share): status (the helper here, whether bromigos update uses it, the AUR updates waiting), on, off, ensure
