The story
Cinder, as the Drift tells it.
The forge world. The foundries on Cinder cast the war's exo-frames, and they never fully shut down. The orders that drove them were never cancelled, because the cartels that could have cancelled them no longer existed. The lines still pour metal for wars that ended decades ago. Lava rivers run between the foundry halls, and the sky is lit orange at all hours.
The forge-golems. Some of what the lines pour gets halfway to a frame and then walks. Forge-golems are half-built frames that climb the gantries and wander the halls, still working at jobs nobody has assigned them.
The post. The relay hangs from a dead forge crane, and the post is the crane's cab. The flame is cast into the crane's counterweight.
The keeper. Brask is an old foundry engineer from the lines that cast the war's frames. He builds masts and housings for the other posts. He also quietly retools forge-golems, one at a time. A golem that comes down from his crane doesn't carry a gun mount any more. It carries masts.
What lives there. Cinder-crows nest in the warm stacks and pick through the slag. (Cinder has no connection to Cinder Cay, Baron Corbeau's reef-haven.)
