The story
Lowtown, as the Drift tells it.
The rain city. Lowtown is a megacity under permanent cloud. It rains every day, and the neon never goes off. Elevated trains run over the streets, and hover-cabs weave between the towers. Bounty boards on every corner list whoever is worth something today. Half the people on the street have been rebuilt somewhere, and the city's mesh has been sold three times over. In the basements, the jazz bars stay open late, and nobody bothers to own the old bands.
The post. The Low Note is a basement jazz bar. The relay hides in its neon sign: the bar's sign has a green ring where the second O should be, with a black glass flame inside it that never lights.
The keeper. Della Ash owns the Low Note and plays its piano. In Lowtown, what you know is worth more than what you own, and Della trades in information and coin. When a post needs something that can't be salvaged, cast or flown, Lowtown pays for it. Della also hears everything said in her bar, and she remembers all of it.
What lives there. Crowds, at every hour. There is also a stray cat that sleeps on the bar's sign, where the neon is warm.
